John Porter
M, #7981, d. 21 April 1648 or 22 April 1648
Parents
Biography
John Porter and Anna (Rosanna) White were married on 18 October 1620 in Messing, Essex.1,2 He died 21 April 1648 or 22 April 1648 in Windsor, Hartford, Conn.1,3 John Porter; as taken from the "Compendium of American Genealogy" First Families of America. by Virkus Vol. VI
John Porter (1590-1648) Decended in the 6th generation from William de la Grande, a Norman Knight of Kenilworth in Warwickshire, 1066 from Co. Essex, England. Came in the "Susan and Ellen"in 1638 and settled in Windsor, CT. He received a large land grant, was constable 1639-1640, a juror 1641, a grand juror 1643 and deputy 1646/47. Married in England in 1620 to Anna daughter of Robert White And Bridget Allgar.
As taken from Vol. 1 by Virkus. (Also In Savage) John Porter (1590- 1648) from Eng. probably 1638 received a large land grant and was constable at Windsor,CT. 1639, Deputy General Court 1639 (and those that follow) married 1620 Ann (Rosanna) White of England.
John Porter arrived in Dorchester, MA 30 May 1627 aboard the ship "Anna" his occupation is given as Yeoman. One report I have found says there were 14 children. Anna, John, Sarah, James, Rebecka, Samuel, Rose, Samuel (again), Hezekiah, Mary, James, Nathaniel, Hannah/Anne, and Joseph. I do not know which is right.
There are two John Porters in Anderson's books. Neither seem to be this John Porter. John Porter had person sources.4,1 The Porter Genealogy (1893) lists 11 children. Thomas is not among them. He is also not listed among the children in the 1901 NEHGR article. Although a Nathaniel is listed in John Porter's will. I'm going to list his parentage as disputed. He was baptized (infant) on 21 June 1594 in Felstead, Essex, England. He made a will on 20 April 1648.1,2 The estate of John Porter was probated on 7 June 1649.1
