He died 29 December 1878 or 30 December 1878 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.4,5,6 He was buried on 31 December 1878 at Metairie Cemetery in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.5 I have made him the son of James and Henrietta because of the unusual surname, date, naming two daughters Henrietta and her maiden name being Burrows.
He was referred to by the title of "Capt." but I have not determined what he was captain of. His name is not found in Way's Packet Directory, so it was probably not river steamers.
Family tradition states that under the occupation of New Orleans he was required to carry a ball and chain on city streets as a punishment for some infraction. Capt. James Burrows had person sources.7 He was baptized (infant) on 19 May 1816 in Harwich, Essex.3 He immigrated about 1838 to the United States. His birth name was James William Burrows Torrible.
