Biography
John Reason McFAULL was born on 2 May 1864 in Glynn, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland+.1 He and Isabel Maria Juliana Lecuona Sabarte were married on 25 October 1899 in Partick, Glasgow, Scotland+.2 He died on 10 October 1937 at age 73 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.3,4,5 He was buried in 1937 at St. Patrick Cemetery in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana. The story of John & Isabella's meeting was related in bits and pieces by Dolores McFaull Beaver. The Lecuona family were "wealthy" ship-fitters or chandelers in San Sebastian where ships owned by the McFaull family had occasion to call. John & Isabella met, some say at a fair, during one of these port calls. It seems that Isabella's father had arranged a marriage for his daughter but she found out that her prospective husband had a mistress which he intended to keep. She was not willing to enter into this sort of arrangement and decided that Capt. McFaull was a better choice. Her father bitterly opposed their marriage and disowned her from a rather considerable inheritance, dowry etc.
That was Dolores' story. I doubt much of it. First Isabella's uncle, Leonardo Lecuona, ran a small bakery; her father, Antonio, worked in a shipyard, mother sold women's clothing. It's much more likely that Antonio arranged an advantageous match for his daughter, which he hoped would raise the family fortunes. When she rejected the suitor his hopes were dashed and the family had to immigrate to South Africa and start over. John Reason McFAULL was baptized (infant) on 15 May 1864 in Larne, Antrim, Northern Ireland.6 He received his master's license on 13 February 1896 in Larne, Antrim, Northern Ireland. He immigrated on 10 May 1909 to New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana, onboard "Joseph Vaccaro."7 He and Isabel Maria Juliana Lecuona Sabarte appeared in the census on 15 April 1910 at 3020 Charters St. in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.8 He was naturalized on 26 July 1918 in Orleans Parish, Louisiana.7 He rescued the crew of the "Thomas L. Wand" on 12 November 1919.9,10,11 He and Isabel Maria Juliana Lecuona Sabarte appeared in the census on 10 January 1920 at 420 St. Patrick St. in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.12 He and Isabel Maria Juliana Lecuona Sabarte appeared in the census in 1930 in New Orleans, Orleans, Louisiana.13
